Most people like coconut but hardly eat the food it has and just drink the water inside (which is sterile if drunk directly from the nut with no strays nor pouring into cups). Coconut and coconut oil has many health benefits. Here is a list of a few of them.

Coconut oil contained in the food helps burn body fat especially those contained in the abdominal cavity and around organs which has been proven to be the most dangerous fat. A study of the weight loss properties in 40 female and 20 male showed significant weight loss and reduction in abdominal circumference when their diet was supplemented with 30mL of Coconut Oil per day within 4-12 weeks.

2. IMPROVES BLOOD CHOLESTEROL LEVELS AND PREVENTS HEART DISEASE

Coconut oil contains saturated fats, which raise the levels of HDL (good) cholesterol and change the LDL (bad) cholesterol to a benign (inactive) subtype . A study have showed that coconut oil reduced Total and HDL Cholesterol whiles increasing HDL Cholesterol compared to soybean oil.  This and other studies in animals have proven that coconut oil improves risk factors of heart disease, thus reducing the risk for heart disease.

3. HAS LOW GLYCEMIC INDEX AND REDUCES RISKS ASSOCIATED WITH DIABETES

Glycemic index measures how fast carbohydrates raise blood sugar levels. Coconut fiber slows down the glucose release, thus decrease the amount of insulin need to transport the glucose to cells that convert them to energy. Coconut also helps relieve stress on the pancreas and enzyme systems and therefore reduces risks associated with diabetes.

Coconut and coconut oil speeds up metabolism and releases ketone bodies from the fats it contains. This in turn provides an immediate source of energy from less calories than other fats. Ketone bodies have been associated with reducing hunger. A study of men who ate medium and long chain triglycerides, (as contained in Coconut Oil), ate 256 fewer calories per day on average. The fatty acids contained in coconut oil could positively affect weight in the long term since it significantly reduces appetite.

5. COCONUT OIL HELPS IMPROVE BRAIN FUNCTION IN ALZHEIMER’S PATIENTS

The fatty acids in coconut oil are turned into ketone bodies by the liver. These bodies can provide an alternative source of energy for the brain. Alzheimer’s patients have been known to have reduced ability to utilize glucose in some parts of the brain. And researchers have speculated that ketones can provide an alternative source of energy for the malfunctioning cells. A study on the consumption of medium chain triglycerides (as contained in coconut oil), showed immediate improvement in patient’s with a milder form of Alzheimer’s.

6. HAS ANTI-BACTERIAL, ANTI-FUNGAL AND ANTI-VIRAL PROPERTIES.

About 50% of fatty acids in Coconut and Coconut Oil is Lauric Acid. When fatty acid in coconut is enzymatically digested it forms a monoglyceride called monolaurin. Both Lauric Acid and Monolaurin can kill harmful pathogens including bacteria, fungi and viruses. This in turn has the potential of reduce our affinity to contracting infections.
